The word Yoga, or yuj, originates from Indian
philosophy meaning to yoke, or union. This is often
referred to as the union of Individual's soul with the
entire Universe.
Yoga is an ancient philosophy of living with inner peace
and happiness. Yoga is typically practiced through postures,
or asanas - a set of exercises that encourages the union
of mind, body and the inner spirit. But just sitting
quietly and breathing is also yoga. If you are focusing
on the breath, you are doing yoga.
By practicing the art of Yoga, one can develop a greater
ability to focus the mind without distraction to attain
mental clarity. With evidence pointing to the validity
of psychosomatic illnesses, meaning our thoughts can
contribute to our well-being, it is believed that if
one can calm the mind, promoting peace and harmony,
he or she can attain better health and wellness.
